Skateboarding and the Language of Love
What is it that skaters bond over? How does it happen? Why does it happen? Have you ever been to a new park, city or spot and felt the awkwardness of that first greeting to your fellow skateboarder? On the outside, it seems that even though you both enjoy doing the same thing, you’re bound to get along right? You might then proceed to stand back and watch or they might watch you for a while, like you’re getting a feel for each other and the new environment that you’re in before potentially engaging in more conversation.
It doesn’t matter what country or town you are in as this seems to be the way that it always goes. Whether the place you are in speaks your language or not, you can pick up on this vibe through the body language and looks that are coming your way. Sometimes you may feel those eyes looking at you as you are skating and finding your way around your surroundings.
It’s like you are entering into someone else’s territory and you need to show your respect before entering in full presence. What is really going on here, is an exchange of emotional energy in the form of love for skateboarding.
Those who show up to a spot with the intent to stir up the environment and vibe of existing skaters gathered there will not be well received or welcome. Those that show up and want to have fun without the expense of conflict,
