THE ENDLESS WAVE | PART TWO
damage or disrespect to the spot and the people there. Simply put, if you show up and you’re down to skate, then you’ll most likely enjoy the experience immensely. If you show up and make a scene, tip over the trash, break bottles and other objects, climb on things, set the bins on fire or do anything that brings unnecessary attention to the park or spot, then it might be time to stop, pack your things and go.
This attention-seeking kind of behaviour is a communication of their own need for greater acceptance of self and self-love. This kind of off board behav- iour reflects on seeking worthiness through being a clown, however, it reflects a poor image of Skateboarders and the way they behave in the environment that they are in.
As long as you show up and have clear intentions of having fun and follow the flow of what’s going on there, you’ll most likely be welcomed. Skate- boarding has the potential to bring so many different worlds together. It might be similarly said about any other activity, hobby or spot, however, be- cause skateboarding is so accessible in urban-style environments and there is not a specific place that people have to go in order to participate, the in- fluence of Skateboarding has a profound impact on shaping culture, identity and lifestyle.
Skateboarding can open its doors to each and all who want to have a go. Skate- boarding takes place in many different styles, breaking social constructs in the barriers of age, demographics, gender and socio-economics. Many bonds are formed over boards. It’s safe to state that while there are certain skills a skateboarder has to learn in order to progress, every skateboarder is unique; learning and expressing in their own way. Most, if not all skaters can relate to similar journeys as they progress.
Skate for fun, enjoy the process and show up as the best version of yourself, on and off board. The tricks that you do are secondary to sharing and express- ing the language of love while you are on your skateboard.
