weight had been lifted from my shoulders. It took over three years for me to start writing again and get my mojo back.
There is no doubt that grief can destroy you if you let it. I think that I rode grief for the magazine a bit like a wave — and it ties in nicely with the title of this book. When you surf the waves of grief that hit you, you have to be very careful not to get overwhelmed by a close-out or pulled into the undertow. Grief is a cruel master. It forces you to confront reality. You can’t outrun grief, but it is possible to grow from it.
