THE ENDLESS WAVE | PART ONE
spoke to the father about how they felt about his death. It was truly a raw and visceral experience that I will never forget.
I started to think about what the children said and wrote to their late father while at the casket. While I truly wished that somehow he could hear and read these heartfelt sentiments, I knew that was just wishful thinking. The man was dead, and whatever had been said while he was alive seemed to have very little bearing on the outcome. I will never know what the family said or wrote to this man while he was alive. All I experienced was the grief and anger that they displayed now that he was no longer there. Fortunately, I don’t see many IDs like the one I’ve just described.
The time for real talk is not when someone is dead. That is merely a one-way conversation.
